Community support during the COVID-19 pandemic

Fighting the negative consequences of the coronavirus pandemic, back in March 2020 Allegro started a series of initiatives aimed at supporting customers, companies as well as the Polish health care system.

The campaign was initiated not only by employees who submitted requests for support to hospitals and medical facilities and the management staff but also social partners.

The campaign was initiated not only by employees who submitted requests for support to hospitals and medical facilities and the management staff but also social partners. In response to voices coming to us from employees as well as the existing needs, members of our management team set up a special fund of PLN 2 million to support employee initiatives in fighting the coronavirus. Over 200 employees implemented 77 projects which included volunteering. Our support reached, among others, the homeless, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, disadvantaged families as well as people in need who had to stay in quarantine or isolation. Special aid was also given to nursing homes and hospices. Within this program, Allegro funded computers for students in need, financed psychological support initiatives for seniors as well as meals for people affected by the homelessness crisis, seniors, persons suffering from social exclusion as well as persons staying at single mother’s homes. Allegro employees also supported families with premature infants and those where babies were born during the pandemic.

In total, Allegro allocated nearly PLN 490 million on battling the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. Almost PLN 7 million was spent on supporting social organisations and hospitals. Allegro created a special support program for health care workers and thanks to the experience offered by WOŚP and the Doctors to Doctors Foundation (Fundacja Lekarze Lekarzom), the company was able to transfer basic equipment, including lab equipment, respirators, personal protective equipment. Allegro also engaged its users by holding fundraisers to support WOŚP’s Intervention Fund (Fundusz Interwencyjny WOŚP). All in all, the total amount of PLN 213 thousand was raised. Hospitals were also sent 31 tonnes of fresh vegetables and fruits. As part of the #stay_safe initiative, our employees were granted tools and training related to remote work as well as a special coupon worth PLN 1,000 to be spent on organizing a comfortable workspace at home.
